Square Trees Trail

Square Trees Trails in El Valle de Antón you can surround yourself with nature and get to know a variety of trees.

Descripción

Located next to the Hotel Campestre, this trail attracts visitors from various parts of the world for its curious variety of trees; the main attraction being the “square trees”. Quararibea asterolepis (scientific name) is a species of the Malvaceae family, with angular, straight edges that give them a semi-square or rectangular appearance. They are like this from the base to a few meters high and even their rings take this shape. Then the trunk grows in a cylindrical shape like any other tree until it reaches between 25 and 35 meters in height. Although we like to think that this species of trees are unique to El Valle de Anton, they can also be seen in the Sambú Valley, south of Darién and in some countries in South and Central America.

This trail covers approximately 1km which usually takes about 30 minutes. The trail takes you between tall treetops and a suspension bridge. You can see birds, butterflies and if you are lucky ñeques and sloths. It is of slight difficulty, designed for the enjoyment of children, young people and adults.
