Piedra Pintada

Piedra Pintada in El Valle de Antón enjoys a tour in one of the most enigmatic points of the town.

Descripción

Located on the way up to La Indiaa dormida, this volcanic stone is one of the enigmatic attractions of El Valle de Antón. Partly because of its large size and partly because of its pre-Columbian petroglyphs. The symbols engraved in the rock have an uncertain meaning; Some say it’s a map of the area, others say it’s religious symbols, and others think it’s a harvest calendar. This is not the only stone with petroglyphs in El Valle de Antón, but it is the largest and most popular.

Tips & Suggestions:

    • The painted stone is on the skirt of The Sleeping Indian; they even have the same entrance. If you have time and good physical condition, it is ideal to combine the visit to the stone with the climb to the hill.
    • As soon as you approach the entrance, you will see children and adults offering tours. We recommend taking the tour if you want to know the history of the stone. In addition, in this way you support the local community.
    • You must bring cash to pay for the entrance fee (and the tour guide if you decide to take the tour). Since the drive to the stone is only 10-15 minutes, there is no need to wear sportswear or closed-toe shoes.
